Exploring the Wonders of Victoria Falls: A Luxurious Journey

Updated: Apr 6

There are few destinations in the world that combine raw natural beauty, wildlife, culture, and refined experiences quite like Victoria Falls. Over three days, I explored both sides—Zimbabwe and Zambia—blending adventure with thoughtfully curated moments.

Day 1 — Arrival & Sunset on the Zambezi

The journey began with a seamless flight from South African Airways from Johannesburg to Victoria Falls ($240 USD). Upon arrival, I was welcomed by my driver ($200 for the whole stay), highly recommended since transport options like Uber are not readily available. He transferred me to my hotel, Drift Inn. This charming and intimate guesthouse offered a cozy room equipped with air conditioning—perfect for settling in and recharging after the journey.

As the afternoon softened into golden hour, I headed out for the highlight of the evening: the Pure Africa Sunset Dinner Cruise ($110 USD). Set on a beautifully designed boat along the Zambezi River, the experience was effortlessly elegant. A three-course meal paired with an open wine bar, warm service, and a relaxed yet refined atmosphere made it unforgettable. Surrounded by like-minded travelers and a glowing African sunset, it was the perfect introduction to the region.

Day 2 — Safari in Botswana & Dinner with a View

An early start marked the beginning of a full day of adventure. I was picked up by my driver and set off toward Chobe National Park ($200 USD). Even before crossing the border, wildlife sightings had already begun—a reminder of how alive this region is. Border formalities were smooth, especially with regional visa arrangements that can cover multiple countries.

Our base for the day was Chobe Marina Lodge, where we had time to relax before the first activity: a boat safari on the Chobe River. Floating quietly along the water, we found ourselves incredibly close to hippos, elephants, and other wildlife. It’s a unique perspective—calm, immersive, and deeply connected to nature.

After returning to the lodge for a generous buffet lunch, the experience continued with a land-based game drive. This offered a different energy—more dynamic, with even more wildlife encounters. It was a full, exhilarating safari day.

Back in Victoria Falls, I took time to rest before heading out for dinner at Lookout Cafe ($30 USD). Set dramatically above the Batoka Gorge, the views are as memorable as the atmosphere—an ideal way to close the day.

Day 3 — Zambia, Culture & The Falls

The next morning, I crossed into Livingstone with a short drive and a smooth border process. The day began with a cultural touch at the Livingstone Museum ($5 USD), offering context and history to the region. From there, I explored the local market, experiencing the rhythm of daily life and craftsmanship.

A visit to Avani Victoria Falls Resort followed—a beautiful property with direct access to one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. And then, the highlight: Victoria Falls. Majestic is an understatement. The scale, the power, the sound—it’s something you feel as much as you see. One of those rare places that truly exceeds expectation.

In the evening, I returned to Zimbabwe for dinner at The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show ($60 USD). A vibrant experience combining traditional cuisine with live performances, music, and dance. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere unforgettable—an immersive cultural celebration.

Departure — A Final Stop

On my final day, en route to the airport, I made a quick stop at the iconic Big Tree—a baobab tree estimated to be over 200 years old. It was a quiet, grounding moment before departure.
